SFTP

The SFTP section (⇧⌘F, or Shell → SFTP) lists hosts the same way Hosts does. Enter or a double-click opens a tab. Open SFTP is also on the host’s context menu, and on an SSH tab’s menu, which opens the SFTP tab next to it. An SFTP tab’s menu has Open SSH and Disconnect. A tab opened to an address you typed offers Save as Host….

The SFTP tab signs in on its own connection, with the same jump hosts and known-host checks as SSH. A password, one-time code, security key, or Touch ID is asked again even when an SSH tab to that host is already open. Until the tab connects, the panes are dimmed. The title carries .

Disconnect closes the connection and keeps the tab. The bar says Session closed with Close and Reconnect. An SFTP tab does not reconnect by itself, even when Reconnect is on for the host. If a transfer is running, TermiPort asks first: The transfer in this tab will be cancelled.

The two panes

The left pane is this computer. The right pane is the host, starting in the home folder. Each pane has breadcrumbs, a filter field, + Folder, Hidden, Refresh, and Upload or Download. Columns are Name, Size, Modified, and Permissions. Click a header to sort. Click again to reverse. Folders stay first. Dotfiles stay hidden until Hidden is on. That choice, the sort, and the last folder of the left pane are remembered on this computer.

The filter field reads Filter or go to /path. Plain text narrows the list by name. Text that starts with / or ~, then Enter, goes to that path. A path that cannot be opened shows the reason under the field. Esc clears the field.

Back (⌘[), Forward (⌘]), and Up (⌘↑) walk the pane’s own history. Enter or a double-click opens a folder. On a file, Enter copies it to the other pane. ⌥↩ copies the whole selection, folders included. ⌘I is Info, and on the host it can rename. ⌘⌫ deletes on the host only, after a confirmation, including the contents of a folder. There is no rename or delete on this computer: Finder does that.

A listing stops at 50,000 items and says so. A name that is not valid UTF-8 is shown greyed out and cannot be selected, opened, transferred, renamed, or deleted. A narrow pane drops Permissions, then Modified.

Transfers

Upload and Download copy the selection into the folder the other pane is showing. One tab has one queue and one transfer at a time. The bar shows the file, the count, the bytes, the speed, N more waiting, Cancel, and Cancel All. Delete runs in the same queue.

Download to… asks for a folder with the system dialog, starting in the folder the left pane shows, and downloads there. The result line of a finished download has Show in Finder on macOS.

When a name already exists, the dialog shows both sides and offers Stop, Skip, Keep Both (the copy is numbered, report 2.pdf), and, for a file, Replace, or, for a folder, Merge. A file against a folder offers neither Replace nor Merge. The default is Keep Both for files and Merge for folders. Esc is Stop. Apply to all uses the same answer for the rest of that transfer. A file that fails (no permission, no space) asks Stop or Skip, and Skip is the default.

Files are written under a temporary name, .name.termiport-….part, and renamed when complete, so the real name never holds half a file. A dropped connection can leave that temporary file on the host. On this computer it is removed. There is no resume: a cancelled or failed file starts over. A copied file keeps its modification time, to the second, and its permission bits. setuid, setgid, and sticky are not copied. A finished file is checked by size, not by content. A transfer of more than 200,000 items is refused.

On macOS, each file a download writes on this computer gets the quarantine attribute, as a browser download does. Folders and uploads are not marked. A folder under Desktop, Documents, or Downloads makes macOS ask for permission, and an ad-hoc signed build loses that permission with every new build.

Drag and drop

On macOS, files dragged from Finder onto the host pane upload into the folder under the pointer. Dragging between the panes copies the same way. Releasing anywhere else, or Esc, cancels. Dragging out to Finder is not offered. Use the left pane, Download to…, or Show in Finder.

On Android there is no drag and drop and no Finder. Files go through the system folder picker.
