TermiPort

Documentation

Install and the first connection

Download the macOS disk images on GitHub releases. Release 26.10.30.55 has two macOS builds (Apple silicon and Intel). Android is under development; there is no polished public APK on that page yet. Windows, Linux, and iOS apps are planned for later — no dates yet.

macOS

You need macOS 13.3 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.

  1. Open TermiPort_26.10.30.55_aarch64.dmg (Apple silicon) or TermiPort_26.10.30.55_x64.dmg (Intel).
  2. Drag TermiPort to Applications.
  3. The build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. If macOS refuses the first launch, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway for TermiPort, then confirm with the Mac password.

A newly built ad-hoc package can need that approval again. Check for Updates… installs a later signed update from the developer and restarts the app.

The vault is vault.db, plus vault.db-wal and vault.db-shm, in ~/Library/Application Support/app.termiport.desktop/. Quit TermiPort before you copy those files. To try a build without touching that vault or ~/.ssh, set TERMIPORT_DATA_DIR and TERMIPORT_SSH_DIR.

Android (under development)

The Android app is a work in progress, not a finished release. Target is Android 9 or later on arm64. It is not on Google Play, and a public APK is not listed with the current GitHub release.

When a test build is available, install it from the source that provided the APK, allow the system prompt for that source, and later use Check for Updates… so the app can hand a signed APK to the system installer.

The phone UI uses a top bar, a side menu of the same sections, a tab switcher, and bottom sheets for overflow and context menus. In a terminal, an extra key row sits above the on-screen keyboard: Esc, Ctrl, Tab, and the arrows. SSH and local sessions stay up in the background with a foreground service and a notification. If Android still kills the process, those sessions are gone and the app says so the next time it starts.

Fingerprint unlock needs Android 12 or later. FIDO2 security keys, Secure Enclave, Termius import, several windows, and the keyboard-shortcut editor are not on Android.

Master password

The first window is Create a master password.

  1. Enter a password of at least 8 characters in Password.
  2. Repeat it in Confirm.
  3. On a Mac with Touch ID, leave Unlock with Touch ID on if you want the sensor to open the vault on this Mac only.
  4. Choose Create.

The master password cannot be recovered. If it is lost, Reset TermiPort… deletes the vault. Keep the password in a password manager. It is not the sync account password: that one only signs in to a server.

On Android 12 and later you can unlock with a fingerprint after the vault exists. The fingerprint wraps a secret on that device. It does not travel with sync.

First SSH host

  1. Press ⌘N on a Mac, or use + Host. The editor title is New Host.
  2. Fill Address, for example server.example.org. A login can be user@server.example.org or the Username field.
  3. Choose Connect. That saves the host and connects. Save only saves.
  4. The first time TermiPort sees the server, it shows the host key fingerprint. Check it, then choose Add and Connect.
  5. If the server asks for a password, type it. Save in vault for this host stores it in the vault.

You can instead import an existing OpenSSH config. See Hosts and the local terminal. A local shell, with no server, is Terminal in the sidebar or ⌘T.

Sync is a separate step. The app works fully offline. When you run your own server, install it from the Debian or ALT repositories under Your own server, then set sync up under Vault and sync.
